We live in a world full of big ideas, siloed sectors, and systems that often don’t work for the people they’re meant to serve. I’ve spent my career in the spaces in between — not just working across different roles, but across different missions.
That’s where InterThread comes in.
This blog is where I reflect on those intersections — between leadership and logistics, strategy and service, technology and trust. It’s not about abstract thought leadership or corporate posturing. It’s about what actually works when you’re leading teams of volunteers, trying to operationalise change, or making funding decisions that impact real communities.
🧵 So what can you expect here?
You’ll find posts that explore:
- Volunteer leadership — and what it takes to lead when nobody’s being paid to follow
- Operational thinking — lessons from systems that work (and the ones that don’t)
- Technology — especially AI tools like Copilot, and how they can support real work without replacing real people
- Community and grant-making — reflections on what makes local impact last
- And occasionally, a look at the theory behind the practice — because thinking critically is part of leading well
👋 Who I Am
If we haven’t met yet: I’m Josh Hensman.
I work in vendor strategy in the tech channel. I lead volunteers with St John Ambulance. I sit on the board of a community foundation. And I’m currently studying business management as a degree apprentice — not because I had to, but because I believe in never coasting.
I write InterThread because I need a space to think — and to share those thoughts in case they help someone else along the way.
🤝 Come Along for the Journey
This isn’t just a blog. It’s a conversation.
So read, comment, share, challenge — whatever works for you. I’d love for this to become a space where people who care about purpose and practice can connect, even if we come from different corners of the world.
Let’s get started.
